COVID-19 sees a 50% growth in Online Purchasing
Covid-19 has changed the way we all do things. No longer can we take a stroll down to our favourite coffee shop – or go out for dinner to celebrate a happy event, instead, our everyday lives have completely changed with no certainty as to when we can “go back to normal”.
As such, the way people are making purchases has drastically changed. Without the ability to go shopping unless it is for essential items, there has been a surge in online procurement.
Online retailers have more business than ever before, and now have a different kind of problem such as managing supply chains and deliveries rather than getting businesses. Online retailers are finding themselves having to pause orders in order to catch up.
According to Quantum Metric, online sales have increased by 50% in comparison to what they were last year.
This alone should give you an indicator as to what can be expected over the coming weeks as people get used to a new way of life for the time being. The likelihood is that we will also see lots more businesses venturing online and developing e-commerce websites. Restaurants, for example, need to find new ways of making money – it could be that they add a takeaway functionality on their website to service their clients, or enable the facility for users to purchase vouchers so when things have settled down – people can enjoy a nice meal.
If companies do start to offer age-restricted items such as alcohol as part of their new online strategy, or the volume of these kinds of purchases is much more significant than it used to be – this is where age verification can come into play. It could be that there are some sectors or businesses that haven’t previously had to worry about this from an online perspective and need to consider it.
Effective age verification can protect your business or brand and ensure you are remaining compliant.
